Sorrento. Mons. Alfano celebrates mass for operators in the world of tourism

Appointment Wednesday 15 March at the parish N.S. of Lourdes

It will be held in the parish N.S. of Lourdes in Sorrento (Marano locality), the first celebration with the world of tourism. The mass presided over by Mons. Francesco Alfano and animated by the Schola Cantorum San Francesco, is scheduled for Wednesday 15 March at 18:00, on the eve of the new tourist season and the solemnity of San Giuseppe, patron saint of workers.

The Tourism and Leisure Service was relaunched in our diocesan Church a few months ago, with the hope of our Archbishop who on 27 January in the council chamber of Sorrento reminded us that “Tourism also challenges the Church. From workers to entrepreneurs, from administrators to politicians, from pastoral workers to Christian communities: everyone is asked to pay attention to the people we welcome and meet, in a moment of vacation and leisure, for our peninsula it is a natural vocation “.

The Pastoral Care of Tourism is located in this context, in the service of the communities and in networking with the territory and with those who care about it, live in it or visit it. “The feast of St. Joseph takes us back to an important date: the visit of Pope John Paul II to our Archdiocese. In Piazza Tasso in Sorrento, in 1992, the Holy Father gave a speech to the citizens, still relevant today and I like to think farsighted for the Pastoral Care of Tourism. He exhorted us never to consider our guests as mere users of services, but as brothers and sisters to be respected and served, inviting us to be promoters, by any means, of the culture of respect and solidarity towards all.” – Don Salvatore Iaccarino, diocesan in charge of Tourism and Leisure.

The Associations and sector operators will be present at the celebration. At the end of the mass, in the parish hall, there will be a convivial moment, offered by the Sorrento Peninsula Cooks Association and by AIBES, with the presentation of the new tourism pastoral portal and the Archbishop’s message to tourists for 2023.
